Can I try AlphaTax before paying?
Absolutely! We offer a 7-day free trial with full access to all features. You can explore everything AlphaTax has to offer during the trial. If you love it, your subscription will continue. If not, you can cancel anytime during the trial with no charges.
Do I need to pay extra for tax filing?
Filing is optional and coming soon. Your subscription includes professional CPA-ready export packages (PDF) you can give to your CPA. Simple filing for basic returns (Form 1040, Schedule C, standard deductions, single state) will be available as an optional add-on for an additional fee when it launches. Complex returns automatically receive the export package for your CPA.
What counts as a "simple return" for filing?
Simple returns are: Form 1040 with Schedule C (self-employment income), standard or itemized deductions, W-2 income, basic 1099s, and single-state filing. If you have K-1s, rental properties (Schedule E), multi-state income, significant investment transactions, or AMT concerns, your return is considered complex and you'll receive our comprehensive export package for your CPA instead.
Why don't you include filing in the subscription price like competitors?
Because we're focused on year-round tax optimization, not just annual filing. Our core value is helping you save thousands through better planning and deduction tracking. Many of our users (especially those with complex returns) prefer to use their existing CPA and just need organized data. We keep the subscription affordable by making filing optional, so you only pay for what you need.
Is there a limit to how many bank accounts I can connect?
Bank and credit card sync is coming soon. Once available, you'll be able to connect unlimited accounts. Currently, you can upload statements and receipts for AI categorization, and manually track expenses and mileage.
Do you offer refunds?
We don't offer refunds, but all plans include a 7-day free trial. You can explore all features during the trial period and cancel anytime before the trial ends with no charges. Once your subscription begins, you can cancel anytime but won't receive a refund for the current billing period.
How does the AI deduction finder work?
Our AI scans all your connected accounts and transactions to identify potential deductions you might have missed. It looks for patterns like home office expenses, vehicle costs, professional development, software subscriptions, and more. You review and approve any suggestions before they're added to your deductions.
What's included in the "Professional CPA-ready Export"?
You get a comprehensive PDF export package including: categorized transactions, tax summary with recommendations, deduction breakdown by category, and mileage log with dates/purposes. Your CPA can use this organized data to file your return faster (saving you money on their fees).
Can I use AlphaTax for multiple businesses?
Yes! You can track expenses separately for each business and see consolidated tax impact. All included in your subscription.
Is my financial data secure?
Absolutely. AlphaTax uses enterprise-grade security with multiple layers of protection. All data is encrypted with TLS 1.3 in transit and AES-256 at rest—the same encryption standards used by major banks. We're hosted on SOC 2 Type II certified platforms (Supabase and Vercel), and every user's data is isolated with Row-Level Security so you can only access your own information. We never store your bank credentials—Plaid handles all authentication securely. Additional protections include rate limiting against attacks, automated encrypted daily backups, real-time intrusion detection, DDoS protection, and multi-factor authentication. Your data is never sold or shared with third parties. We take your financial security as seriously as you do.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) and debit cards. We use Stripe for secure payment processing. We don't currently accept PayPal or bank transfers for subscriptions.
How is AlphaTax different from TurboTax or H&R Block?
TurboTax and H&R Block are focused on annual tax filing (you use them once a year). AlphaTax is focused on year-round tax optimization - we help you track expenses, find deductions, plan quarterly taxes, and optimize your tax strategy all year long. Think of us as your year-round tax advisor, not just a filing service. Many users use AlphaTax throughout the year and then optionally use our filing add-on or export to their CPA.
Can I cancel my subscription anytime?
Yes, you can cancel anytime with no penalties or fees. Monthly subscriptions can be cancelled and you won't be charged again. Annual subscriptions can be cancelled and you'll retain access until the end of your paid period. Your data remains accessible even after cancellation (you can always export it).
